While quite large in terms of acreage, the number of colleges and universities in Region V is low compared to other NASPA regions because institutions are distributed across several large states. Because colleges and universities are spread out across the large geographic area of Regions V and VI, the two regions work together to host a rotating Western Regional Conference (WRC) each November. The hosting duties for the conference rotates between the regions, with every third year hosted by Region V.
The Region V Advisory Board is made up of twenty-five different executive positions and thirty Knowledge Community representatives, making it one of the largest regional boards in NASPA.
